In 1999, after being persuaded by his wholesaler, my dad began selling Pokémon cards at his shop, which quickly became a success alongside our Beanie Baby business. Since then, we’ve specialized in rare vintage Pokémon items and love sharing stories with collectors at shows.

The Retro808 Story

In 1999, my dad was initially hesitant to sell Pokémon cards at his shop, as we already had a thriving Beanie Baby business. However, his wholesaler insisted he take the cards without upfront costs, allowing him to return any unsold 1st Edition Base Set cases. To his surprise, the cards sold out quickly, leading him to order as many Pokémon WOC cases as possible. From there, we became deeply involved in the Pokémon world, and I’ve been buying, selling, and collecting Pokémon items since then.

Today, we specialize in rare vintage Pokémon items, including cards, toys, and memorabilia, as well as hard-to-find Japanese exclusive figures and merch. My dad and I love attending shows where he shares stories with new collectors about the early days of Pokémon and Beanie Babies.
